Good news my friend 🥳
The nasty little bug has been dealt with. And we even made a few improvements 😎
How Julia caught that bug and beat the sh*t out of it
We launched on Monday, and by Tuesday morning everything was burning. Talk about a successful launch 😅
Here’s what happened:
Many of you received opportunities on Monday that were geographically too far away to be interesting for you.
On top of that we added a few more sources which flooded our database with US-based projects. This probably would’ve meant even worse recommendations in the short-term.
That did not sit well with us. Instead of patiently waiting for the system to improve we decided to go in and force it to work right now. Yeah…we’re not patient people.
Something obviously went very wrong there. So the next step was to go bug hunting.
The good news: we caught the bug and dealt with it 💥
Julia started seeing red as soon as we found the bug. She went on a rampage so I had to stay away until the bug got squashed, for my safety.
But that’s not all!
We actually made a few improvements while we were bug hunting 🎉
Improved Matching System: The system now heavily prioritizes your current location. It first searches for the best opportunities in your current city, it then searches at the country level and then worldwide if necessary. The result is that most recommended opportunities should now be geographically much closer to you. Let’s hope if we didn’t overcorrect!
Opt In/Out of Notifications: You can now opt-in or opt-out of daily notifications for Whatsapp and email based on your needs. You can find this option in the “settings” tab on Beazy.
Other:
Fixed a few broken links in the onboarding workflow and settings page.
Fixed an issue where some users only received 4 recommendations per day. You’ll now always get 5 per day.
Fixed an issue where users could not comment or vote on “published” ideas in the roadmap.
TL;DR: There was a big bad bug in the system. It got squashed. We also made some improvements.
